I bought this book for the Kindle because I went to law school with Amanda (the author). I was pleasantly surprised that it is a good book. The pacing of the book kept me interested thoughout. I was also impressed with the character development. Each character had unique attributes which were built through action and expression allowing the reader to create their own opinion of the character. I don't read many books about werewolves, but this book provided a new take on shifting then I have heard in any books I have read. The intimate romance scenes were described thoroughly, which made me a tad uncomfortable since I know the author. They also made me feel this book is more of a romance that happened to have werewolves rather than a werewolf book that had a romance element. I feel like there is enough of both elements to keep the interest of readers for either genre, but maybe too much of each for readers who are solely interested in one genre or the other.While I read this with the curiousity of seeing a book by someone I know, after reading it I would recommend this book to friends.

This was a great read. I don't read a ton of paranormal romance, but I really enjoyed Hunting Human. The characters are robust and likeable (with the exception of the antagonist, of course). I can't wait to read more in this series. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a quick, entertaining read.
This is the first release by new author, Amanda Alvarez, and I'm already anxiously awaiting her second, be it a sequel to this first effort, Hunting Human, or another story entirely. The book is a real page turner with involved, believable plots and excellent sub-plots that give the reader hope for a followup to pick up the secondary characters' stories.
Ms. Alvarez does an excellent job with her characterization as well as her story line, and with so many paranormal romances out there, this one lends refreshing warewolf traits along with an edgy story line. Beth is believable and admirable, while Braden is loveable and alluring. This is a must read for all romance readers, especially paranormal fans.
The flashbacks were done superbly and didn't stall the drama, but added to it, piece by tension-filled piece. It's been a long time since I've read a paranormal romance that was this believable and balanced the good, the bad, and the ugly so well.
A great story of danger, anguish, love and loss. The main characters are likable and drew ma into their lives from the beginning. A very good read.
I bought this title on the recommendation of a friend whose judgment is pretty reliable, and he was again true to form. This novel satisfies the requisite urban fantasy tropes (werewolf edition) without feeling hackneyed. It really feels more like a book from an author with a track record than a freshman effort. I particularly appreciate that the author exercises a bit of restraint. Every little detail doesn't need to be the ne plus ultra. If you roll your eyes at the oversaturated nature of some popular urban fantasy worlds, then you can relax your exaggeration filter a stop or two and enjoy Hunting Human.
I read this book on a friend's recommendation. I'm not a romance fan (paranormal or otherwise) so I expected it to be something I'd read just to please my friend, something I'd get through then nod my head and say, "Yeah, I read it, it was okay."
Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a thrilling story I could hardly put down from start to finish. The action scenes (especially the flashback story) are gripping and suspenseful, the scenes of Edwards family life at once humorous and surreal as the reader, together with Beth, tries to come to grips with a bewildering life in which Mom can make breakfast for the kids before they go off to play in the woods-- as wolves tracking a deer. The characters of the Edwards family are vivid and distinct, especially the irrepressible Lucy (my favorite) who practically leaps off the page every time she appears.
The villain, Markko, is menacing enough to cast his shadow over every scene, even the times when he seems far away and a lesser villain might recede, taking the suspense with him. But not Markko. His early appearances are filled with enough malevolence to never let the reader forget him, even in the most pleasant or humorous of the Edwards family scenes.
As for the main romance story -- as I said, I'm not a romance fan so I'll leave it to others to discuss in detail. I don't know what criteria real romance fans apply. I'll just say I enjoyed it as much as the rest of the book, and since I'm normally the guy who'd be put off by "mushy stuff" interrupting the action, that's an achievement.
I'll be looking forward to further books from this author (I hope the next one's about Lucy).
