Where do you want to be when the world ends? TRUE NORTH - an apocalyptic M/M Romance. Electricity is gone. Society is on its knees. The heart’s compass becomes the light in the darkness.
Joshua has had enough of people. Especially those desperate, starving bastards who he’s certain ate his dog. When people decide to leave the university town of Lincoln, Nebraska and head south before winter sets in, Joshua heads north instead. When he lands face-first in a snowbank, he welcomes death. What he finds instead is the handsome smile of Chris, a lone goat farmer who’s trying to make the best of life without power.
About the Heart's Compass series
Our heart has its own compass. It knows where we should be heading, even if the rest of us doesn't. Through loss and love, our heart’s compass guides us through life, often to somewhere completely unexpected. When the world ends, the heart’s compass of several people has them headed in directions they may have never traveled otherwise.
Each book in the series is a stand-alone, novella-length story, but is written within the same fictional setting in which the Earth has just been struck with several massive solar flares. All modern technology has been rendered inoperable. Cars, computers, city infrastructure, phones – all gone in an instant and without warning. In the days directly following the end of the modern world, people must learn to depend on each other, and on their heart’s compass, if they hope to survive.

If you just read the blurb - you'll know this is an M/M romance during the apocalypse and that may or may not be your thing. This is, however, a love story and a very sweet (as in nature, not lack of sex) love story about two men, two real people, regular guys - and it is delightful. The lead characters are good guys, trying to survive and take care of each other. Kilgore gives the characters time to build a friendship stronger than any initial attraction, friendship and partnership built on the people they are before it moves further - you know, like real life love. I love stories about interesting people whom I find likable and this is exactly that. Highly recommended and looking forward to the rest of the quartet.Product details

True North An Apocalyptic M/M Romance Heart Compass edition by CE Kilgore Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Its a sweet romance story. I liked this book, I've also read Back East from this author. Which I totally loved.
Short and sweet with a hint of angst to make it a little interesting. I wish it was longer because I love survival and rebuilding stories and I would have enjoyed more world building .
This sweet short story had nice character development and I liked Joshua's positive attitude in the face of so much adversity.
A sweet story of survival and trust. When SHTF and survival is in question, we do what we must to make it through. Finding love while doing it is just a bonus! Hope to see more like this come out. I enjoyed it.
Much of what I have said about
Back East An Apocalyptic M/M Romance (Heart's Compass)
could be repeated for this M/M short story.
It is a nice little romance, with the apocalypse adding to the angst and a satisfying HEA in the end.
This time the authors allows more realistic hints into her narrative but she keeps her tone light and hopeful.
This story was less well edited, though, with several annoying typos.
Solar flares have knocked civilization on its ass. Without electricity society isn't working too well. Most people are headed south but Joshua has decided to leave them all behind. The poor guy has the worst sense of direction. It's a good thing his wanderings have led him to Chris. I liked that Chris is so generous with all that he has. His kindness made him a very appealing hero for me.
Adult read
I loved this story -- I only wish it was twice as long. The whole series was entertaining, but this was by far the best. I love the whole idea of having to be 100% self suficient, surviving on what you happen to have in the house until you can grow your own food, etc and the romance was very sweet and had a perfect ending (except I wanted more -- I'd love to see a full length novel made out of this story).
